Lighting the Path to Literacy, One Family at a Time

In the News: Families at the Heart of Literacy
This week, KCRA Channel 3, aired a special segment highlighting Luminous Minds and the growing impact of our Family Literacy Nights.
Throughout the country, Luminous Minds proudly partners with districts and schools to support teachers and parents with evidence-based reading resources that strengthen foundational literacy skills.
These events were created with a simple but powerful purpose: equipping parents with practical reading strategies and meaningful activities they can bring into their homes — transforming everyday moments into opportunities for learning, confidence, and connection.

At Oak Hill Elementary in Antelope, parent Tyla Brown attended a January workshop seeking guidance on how to better support her daughter’s reading journey. What she discovered was both encouraging and empowering.
“I learned a lot of activities that I never even thought of. I learned how to break it down in a fun way,” Brown shared.

Educators see these evenings as more than workshops — they are partnerships in action. Oak Hill Elementary Principal Parveen Saenz reflected on the broader vision behind the effort:
“One of our districtwide focuses is literacy. And so how do we build that love of literacy, love of reading, and really help our parents with understanding how to help us and partner up with building those reading foundational skills.”

Each Family Literacy Night strengthens the bridge between classroom and home, reminding us that reading growth flourishes when schools and families move forward together. By empowering caregivers with knowledge and confidence, Luminous Minds continues to help shift outcomes — nurturing stronger readers, engaged families, and brighter futures.
